There will be a significant change to reduce carbon and create non-emitting fuels as the world works to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. These fuels are in high demand now and will become more so in the future, and Canada is well-positioned to produce and use them.
Incentives for the creation and uptake of clean fuels, technology, and procedures are increased by the Clean Fuel Regulations. By gradually making the fuels we use on a daily basis cleaner, the Clean Fuel Regulations aim to drastically cut pollution.
According to the Clean Fuel Regulations, suppliers of liquid fossil fuels (diesel and gasoline) must gradually lower the carbon intensity, or the amount of pollution, of the fuels they manufacture and sell for use in Canada. By 2030, the carbon intensity of gasoline and diesel used in Canada is expected to have decreased by about 15% (below 2016 levels).
